If only time travel were as easy in real life as it was in H.G. Wells' classic. A machine that could jump forward and backward on a whim would be so effortless. Of course, you'd be more likely to alter things in unusual ways...
We started at a rock concert in 1978. The "Bohemian" band was playing one of their latest hit songs! We liked it, but we jumped forward to see if there'd be an encore.
Oops! We jumped too far! We landed in a movie theater in 1990. It was playing an action thriller. We jumped forward again.
We ended up in the same theater in 1991, but this time a suspense thriller was playing. We jumped forward yet again.
We were now in a one-story Miami home. It had clearly been decorated sometime between 1985 and 1992. We jumped forward again.
We appeared in some sort of sports stadium. It could have been any time since 1933, but we decided to jump backward.
We found ourselves in a room in front of a television set. The show it was playing was clearly set in North Carolina sometime between 2003 and 2012. We jumped backward again.
We found ourselves "looking out a dirty old window" at a "wild" crowd at a rock concert. The year was 1981. We jumped backward yet again.
We must have made a miscalculation, because half of us ended up at a book signing in 1990 and the other half ended up at a movie premiere in 1993. We tried jumping forward to see if we could recalibrate.
We reappeared all together back in the same movie theater as before, but this time in 2007. Now a Western thriller was playing. We wondered if this theater ever showed anything but thrillers. We jumped backward.
Something was definitely wrong with our calibration, as we again found ourselves in the room with the television set, but this time it was sometime between 2010 and 2022. A postapocalyptic horror show was playing. We recalibrated the machine and tried jumping backward one last time.
Whew! We ended up at the exact same rock concert where we began! We should have stopped there... but we couldn't resist jumping backward a bit, to the beginning of the concert. What can we say? We like this band!
